Mount Rainier rises at almost 14,435 ft (4,400 m) as the highest peak of the Cascades over the Northwest. The glacier-covered volcano can be seen even from Seattle and, in clear weather, is visible from far away. Its national park protects blooming mountain meadows, old forests, waterfalls and glaciers. The centerpiece is the Paradise area, which in high summer sinks into a sea of wildflowers.

Paradise and the flower meadows
The most famous part is called Paradise: in July and August the mountain meadows bloom in front of the white volcano. Many trails start from here.
Hiking on the mountain
Trails like the Skyline Trail lead to viewpoints overlooking glaciers and valleys. Those who want more circle the whole mountain on the long Wonderland Trail. Short walks are worthwhile too.
Weather and visibility
The mountain makes its own weather and often hides in the clouds. In clear weather it can be seen from far away. The chances are best in summer in the morning and late afternoon.
